Batman: The Animated Serieshas been getting a lot of love lately. New Funko Pops and action figures from McFarlane Toys are keeping the legacy ofKevin Conroy’sDark Knightthriving. However, you’re able to’t have Batman without his trusted young sidekick,Robin. Now,Mondohas stepped in to save the day with their latestBTASfigure.
A part ofMondo’sSan Diego Comic Conexclusive line-up and their ⅙ scale collection, their newBTASfigure is Loren Lester’s Dick Grayson, akaRobin. The Boy Wonder is seen in his classic red, green, yellow and black costume. This was long before he became Nightwing and years before Tim Drake took over the mantle in the series. Designed byAlex Brewer,Danny Haas,Mara AnchetaandTom Rozejowski, Robin comes with a full utility belt of accessories. This includes two grapple hooks (one extended with swappable spinning bolo), a Batarang, a double Batarang, an “R” shaped Batarang, a Bat Bomb, and two throwing fish. There’s also hedge trimmers, a torch, a flashlight, and a figure stand. In addition, for posing, there are four interchangeable heads and six pairs of interchangeable hands. If that wasn’t enough, the limited-edition has an added half-draped cape and two extra head sculpts included. The latter features an unmasked Dick Grayson.

A DC Comics Sidekick Is Born
While most average moviegoers know the story of the circus kid-turned-DCsuperhero,BTASaged up the character for a new generation of viewers. This version of Robin saw the hero in college. He would only appear in a few episodes in the show’s first season as the creators wanted to focus on Batman. Yet, once Fox mandated the character be in more episodes, the sidekick was in nearly every story until it ended its first run in 1995. They even renamed the showThe Adventures of Batman & Robin.
However, that didn’t lead to a lack of great stories. Whether it be “Christmas With the Joker,” “Robin’s Reckoning,” or “If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Rich?”,Robin has a handful of memorable episodes. This also includes “Old Wounds” fromThe New Batman Adventures, which fills in the gap between series, and shows howRobin became Nightwing.
