Abbott Elementaryhas been one of the most successful, if not the biggest, network sitcoms in recent memory. Themockumentary sitcom, a recipient of several accolades and recognitions, achieved critical acclaim and garnered immense viewership numbers. However, series creatorQuinta Brunson— who also stars in the series as Janine Teagues —recently expressed her desire for graduation, looking forward to moving away for other projects. While the end ofAbbott Elementarymay not be happening so soon, especially given that it was justrenewed for Season 5, could the Emmy-winning series be ending after the fifth season?

The truth is, ending a series that has been gaining traction sinceSeason 1would be a terrible decision.Abbott Elementaryhas won a total of four Emmy Awards out of 30 nominations. In addition, the series has been maintaining its momentum since the very first season, earning favorable feedback from critics and audiences alike. In arecent interview, Brunson — who previously said she’s “looking forward to moving away” from her fan-favorite role — assured viewers that for as long as they still have the passion to keep the show going, they will continue. And if it comes to a point where that passion fades, Brunson wants to end things on her own terms. She said:

Abbott Elementary

“If it ever feels like it’s slowing down, I want to be able to write our ending — to end it respectfully and on our own terms. But who knows? That could be 10 seasons, 12. I don’t want to waste the audience’s time.”

Who Stars in ‘Abbott Elementary’?

Abbott Elementary, set within the titular school, centers on a group of dedicated yet underfunded teachers who are determined to fulfill their roles as public servants despite the incompetence of the school district’s educational system. Though the show has garnered praise for its comedic charm, its exploration of the public school system remains the heart of the series. The acclaimed mockumentary sitcom has only grown in popularity since its debut in 2021, thanks, of course, to its stellar cast. That includes Brunson as Janine,Janelle Jamesas the tone-deaf and inept principal Ava Coleman,Tyler James Williamsas first-grade teacher Gregory Eddie,Lisa Ann Walteras second-grade teacher Melissa Schemmenti,Chris Perfettias history teacher Jacob Hill,William Stanford Davisas custodian Mr. Johnson, andSheryl Lee Ralphas kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard.
