Who’s ready for anotherStephen Kingadaptation? It doesn’t matter if it isn’t you, because there’s one more on the way. Coming out left and right likeScream 7casting announcements, the latest project that will take the author’s words from page to screen isThe Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that this time around,JT Mollner, the visionary behind one of the most well-received horror movies of last year,Strange Darling, will both pen and helm the production, which is set to release through Lionsgate. This marks the latest partnership between not just the author and the studio, but also the author, studio, and Mollner, as the latter wrote the screenplay forFrancis Lawrence’s theatrical take on King’sThe Long Walk, which arrives in cinemas this fall.
If you’re looking for something with loads ofbloodshedandgore-filled horror,The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordonmight not be it as it falls into the category of one of King’s more psychological-thriller-leaning pieces of work. Centered around a young girl named Trisha, the tale follows the nine-year-old after she’s lost in the woods alone. With only her Walkman radio by her side, the one sound that brings her comfort in the dark, damp forest is that of baseball games and her beloved pitcher, Tom Gordon. The more she listens, the more Tom Gordon seems to step off the pitcher’s mound and into the labyrinth of trees and ferns that surround her as she begins to experience hallucinations that might just save her life.

In a statement paired with the announcement, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president,Erin Westermansaid,
“JT is a filmmaker we believe has a bright future. Throughout his work, he creates characters, and especially young characters, that are so compelling, heartbreaking, and emotional that they pop off the screen. And of course, that’s what Stephen King does on the page as well. The story of survival and perseverance inThe Girl Who Loved Tom Gordonis timeless. We’ve loved this tale for a long time, and JT is the perfect choice to adapt and direct this King fan favorite.”
