Brie Larson’s star has been shining quite brightly for a while now but, in my eyes, 2013 marked a game-changing year for Larson because that’s when I first caught her performance inShort Term 12. The talent was evident well before that but Larson’s work inShort Term 12was so impassioned, raw, and struck such a significant emotional chord that, one, I’m confident in saying it’s a film I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life and, two, it’s a performance that signified that Larson was one of the best of the best. Then, sure enough, just a couple of years later,Roomcame out and Larson snagged her first Academy Award. But even with all that experience and an Oscar to her name, there’s no denying that joining a behemoth of a franchise like the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite the undertaking.
Larson leadsCaptain Marvelas Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot who finds herself in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to sit down with Larson ahead of the film’s March 8th release and we got to talk about Larson’s experience working withCaptain Marvelstandout,Lashana Lynch, what helped her adjust to the MCU whirlwind, and more! You can catch all of that in the video interview at the top of this article and be sure to keep an eye out for my conversations with Lynch,Jude Law,Gemma Chan,Samuel L. Jackson, and directorsAnna BodenandRyan Fleckcoming soon.
