Netflix announced an all-star cast today for its upcoming filmThe Devil All the Time. Directed byAntonio Campos(The Sinner,Christine), and written by Antonio andPaulo Campos, the movie is described as “a midwestern gothic involving a serial killer couple, a faith-testing preacher, and a corrupt local sheriff in a story told across two decades.”

Produced by Randall Poster, Ninestories’ Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, and Max Born, the film will starChris Evans,Tom Holland,Robert Pattinson,Bill Skarsgard,Mia Wasikowska, andEliza Scanlen. You can start guessing now as to which star is playing which dark character.

Netflix did not send out a traditional press release for the announcement, preferring instead atweetthat did not provide any other information, so there’s no sense yet of when the film may start shooting, or where. But as far as the subject, it sounds a little bit likeTrue Detective(the initial tweet did not clarify if the project was a series or a film, but a follow-up gave additional information). Speaking of the TV world, though, Campos was an EP and director onThe Sinner, the underrated USA series that has run for two seasons. In each, a crime is investigated not as a whodunnit, but asking the question of “why”? (Which is currently streaming on Netflix).

Netflix is certainly spending some serious cash on its original features, both in the movie and TV realm, collecting blockbuster talent and presumably paying a ton of money for it. With the recent news of itsSpace Forceseriesstarring Steve Carell comes the additional info that Carell will be making over $1 million an episode. It’s no surprise then that the streaming giant israising pricesagain for its subscription service.
