Thor has officially landed. After Marvel’sLouisD’Espositoand directorTaikaWaititiannounced the start of productiononThor: Ragnarokon the Fourth of July, starChrisHemsworthposted a video announcement from the set. He’s got his shake, he’s got his shoes, he’s got his rollercoaster in the background. He’s ready to go.

The video doesn’t reveal much of anything except for Hemsworth walking around the studio, but it’s exciting to see the thunder from Down Under.Pre-productionbegan in Queensland back in January, and Marvel had simultaneously announced plans to film in locations throughout the area, including Village Roadshow Studios at the Gold Coast.

The third Thor film featuresa castthat includesCate Blanchettas Hela, a powerful sorceress and ruler of the realm of the dead;Creed’sTessa Thompsonas Valkyrie, a warrior woman from Valhalla;Karl Urbanas the villain Skurge; andJeff Goldblumas The Grandmaster, one of the oldest living beings in the universe who enjoys a variety of games. Returning areTomHiddlestonas Loki,Idris Elbaas Heimdall,Anthony Hopkinsas Odin, andMarkRuffaloas Bruce Banner/Hulk.

Official plot details are unknown, though it’s easy to piece together what’s going on. The title likely suggest’s the apocalypse of Norse mythology which sees the souls of dead rise. Hela’s presence further confirms this plot, while a Wanda-induced hallucination inAvengers: Age of Ultronsaw Heimdall warn Thor of taking his people to “Hel,” which just so happens to be the realm of the underworld in the comics.

With principal photography commencing such a short time ago, the cast probably won’t make an appearance atComic-Con, but Marvel already hasDoctor StrangewithBenedict CumberbatchandGuardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2to satiate the fans.

Thor:Ragnarokis scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2025.
