It wasn’t until it resurfaced on Prime Video the day after Pope Francis’ death thatthe film immediately jumped to #1. It wasn’t until the release ofAnother Simple FavorthatConclavedropped to #2 on Prime Video streaming charts, but it’s still been a major success for the streamer. It earned scores of 93% from critics and 86% from audiences onRotten Tomatoes.
In addition to Fiennes and Tucci,Conclavealso starsJohn Lithgow, who has been tapped to playDumbledore in the newHarry Potterseries.Isabella Rossellinialso stars in the film, and like Fiennes, she was nominated for an Oscar for her performance.Conclaveis based on the novel byRobert Harrisand was written for the screen byPeter Straughan, withEdward Bergerstepping behind the camera to direct the film. However, people have begun to speculate that this is to help teach them the process of what’s going to happen, and there’s no evidence of this being true. Cardinals are most likely watchingConclavebecause it’s so relevant to what’s happening in the world right now — everyone getting ready to vote is likely extremely familiar with the process. Nonetheless, current events have certainly shifted to help shine more light onConclave, which was reviewed as one of thehighest-rated films of 2024.
