TheStar Warsfranchise has beena merchandising powerhouse since the original film’s debutin 1977, and now, nearly fifty years later, the volume of characters, locations, vehicles, and more to be pulled from across theStar Warsgalaxy is staggering. In recent years, one of the things to capture the hearts of collectors and casual fans alike is the broad range of Funko Pop figures, with new unique and imaginative figures of beloved characters coming out every year. The partnership ofStar Warsand Funko Pop is a perfect one, and a new collection of figures is being released with a distinct, retro-style look.

With three separate trilogies of films beingthe pillars of theStar Warstimeline, there are distinct characters and looks to each era, and all of these eras are represented in this new Funko collection, with figures from the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies. Another aspect of these new retro figures that will be exciting for collectors is the two retailer-exclusive figures to hunt down. With a total of five figures, only two are heroic characters, tipping the scales to make thisa somewhat villain-centric release.

From ‘The Clone Wars’ to the Final Order

When theStar Warsprequel trilogy was released from 1999 to 2005, it introduced fans to a whole new style and time period ofStar Wars. However, something that even more firmly cemented fan love for this era wasStar Wars: The Clone Wars, theanimated TV series that began airing on Cartoon Network in 2008.The series endeared fans to already existing characters even more, as well as introduced many new ones, including theClone Trooper Fives, who is one of the new retro Funko Pop figures. An iconic character from the original trilogy who also appears inThe Clone Wars,Boba Fett,is getting a retro-styled figure of his own.

As the collection moves into the era of the original trilogy, the retailer-exclusive figures begin to make their appearance. The first is a figure of Admiral Akbar, the hero of the Rebel Fleet at the Battle of Endor who was pivotal in the defeat of the second Death Star. This figure is available exclusively atTarget. The next exclusive figure, available at the merch storeBoxLunch, is one ofStar Wars' most iconic characters, Darth Vader. This figure is particularly exciting because the accented coloring in the retro design glows in the dark. And finally, the collection finishes off withVader’s No. 1 fan, Kylo Ren,with his repaired helmet as he appears inThe Rise of Skywalker.
