What Is ‘Hatchet’ About?
Hatchetfollows two college students, Ben (Joel David Moore) and Marcus (Deon Richmond), in New Orleans as they enjoy Mardi Gras. Things take a turn when they decide to go on a haunted boat tour of an allegedly cursed bayou. They meet up with several other tourists and are entertained by their guide, who regales them with tales ofa ghostly serial killer who wanders the swamp.The group laughs off the stories, until they are hunted bya vengeful, deformed manwho kills anyone who enters the swamp.
Hatchethad a limited theatrical release and bombed at the box office, butit developed a cult following thanks to home release, the movie’s ode to iconic slasher movies, and the appearance of various genre icons. Its success further propelled it into a franchise withHatchet IIreleasing in 2010,Hatchet IIIin 2013, andVictor Crowleyin 2017. Green wrote and directed all the movies in the franchise exceptHatchet III, which was helmed byB. J. McDonnell.Hatchet’s arrival on the free streaming service sets the stage for fans to kick-start the spooky season early.
