Winter is here and theSong of Ice and Fireis nearing its conclusion. Today at the TCA, new HBO Programming PresidentCasey Bloysfinally confirmed thatGame of Throneseighth season will be it’s last. Kaput. Fin. That’s all she wrote, folks.
“Yes, I think [showrunners,D.B. WeissandDavid Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys said. “If I could get them to do more, I would take 10 seasons, but we want to take their lead with what they could do and what the best version of the show is.”
Fortunately, we have some time to brace ourselves for the narrative climax decades in the making (and the inevitable body count that will come with it). HBO recently announced that Season 7 of their longest-running, most-watched series will return later than usual, in the summer of 2017, with a condensed seven-episode order.
If you’re worried about what you’ll do without your yearly trip to Westeros, all hope is not lost. Bloys also mentioned that a spinoff series is still in discussion, though there are no solid plans at the moment
“We’ve talked about it,” he said. “It’s not something I’m opposed to but it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure the guys can wrap their heads around it when they are about to start production. We’re open to it; the guys aren’t opposed to it but there’s no concrete plans right now.”
