Gran Turismois the most recent of several video game adaptations planned by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Studios. What Is Gran Turismo’s Release Date?
Sony Pictures is set to releaseGran Turismoon June 29, 2025. The film was initially set to release on August 11 but was delayed due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The film still kept its August 11 opening for international territorieswhere it made $10.7 million in its opening weekend, with France being the top-performing market.

Will Gran Turismo Be in Theaters or on Streaming?
Gran Turismowill be released exclusively in movie theaters on July 22, 2025.
No streaming dates have been given for the film, but we do know that the film will most likely be available to stream on Netflix thanks to a deal that was struck between the streamer and Sony Pictures in early 2021. Recent Sony films such asA Man Called Otto,The Woman King, andWhitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebodymade their way to the streamer around four months after their theatrical release.
Is There a Trailer for Gran Turismo?
On July 10, 2025, Sony released a sneak peek of theGran Turismomovie that included the first clip from the picture. The film is about more than just racing and the rush it brings.
The sneak peek successfully builds up the anticipation of this Sony-PlayStation partnership, featuring the film’s lead actors in racing attire and explaining the movie in their own words. We also see racing cars and little clips from behind the scenes of the movie’s filming.
Thefull trailer forGran Turismowas released on Sony Pictures' YouTube channel on June 20, 2025. Set toNas' classic track “Hate Me Now,” the trailer gives us a look at the real-life underdog story of Jann Mardenborough, from gamer to racer.
On June 12, 2025,Sony Pictures released a featurette online, highlighting the true story on which the film is based on. The trailer also highlights how the real-lifeJann Mardenboroughdid his own driving for the film’s stunt work.
A series of 30-second spots for the film were unveiled from May 31 to June 5, during the NBA Finals.

What Is Gran Turismo About?
Sony has plannedGran Turismoto be a biographical coming-of-age sports drama. Given that theGran Turismovideo game series is all about driving and racing, the source material doesn’t feature any characters or a story. Sony cleverly uses the PlayStation Studios brand by retelling Jann Mardenborough’sreal-life tale. Here is the official plot synopsis of the film:
Gran Turismo is based on the unbelievable true story of a team of unlikely underdogs – a struggling working-class gamer (Archie Madekwe), a failed former racecar driver (David Harbour), and an idealistic motorsport executive (Orlando Bloom). Together, they risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world. Gran Turismo is an inspiring, thrilling, and action-packed story that proves that nothing is impossible when you’re fueled from within.
The movie will examine Mardenborough’s life, not just his career as a race car driver, but also romantically. Mardenborough participated in the Gran Turismo Academy competition, beating 90,000 other participants to become the tournament’s third and youngest champion. He was rewarded with the opportunity to represent Nissan in the Dubai 24-Hour race, and he went on to win numerous Nissan events and make a living as a professional race car driver. The movie will examine his life, which also intends to add a little romance.

Gran Turismois a bold choice for PlayStation Productions to bring to the big screen, yet taking a game without a narrative and injecting that idea with a story gives Blomkamp and co. more of an opportunity to turn this into something all their own. Unfortunately,Gran Turismobecomes a mundane, bland shell of much better racing films.
