What Happened in ‘Outlander’ Season 7, Episode 10?
OutlanderSeason 7’s second part has already exploded into life withheartfelt moments and bombshells galore. Episode 10, “Brotherly Love”, brought about the expected but no less heartbreaking passing of Ian (Steven Cree), with episode 9’s dedication to showcasing Ian much younger only helping this death hit even harder.Ian was such a pivotal player in theOutlanderseries, and his presence will be sorely missed in the lives of those he touched.
However, this isn’t the only death that rocksOutlanderSeason 7’s tenth episode, with Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) arrival at Lord John Grey’s (David Berry) house met with a stunning and flooring revelation: Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) ship has been lost at sea and no survivors have been recovered. Alas, Jamie is pronounced dead, and, despite Claire’s denial, the reality soon sets in and she seeks faith in mourning. Looking to help protect her,John nobly offers her his hand in marriage, although it seems as if all this has been at least in some way influenced by the very unpredictable truth in grief. ‘Outlander’ Season 7, Episode 11 Preview
Following on from the twist-filled episode 10, episode 11, “A Hundredweight of Stones”, will deal with the fallout of the shock announcement of Jamie’s death, although his ship lost at sea suggests all may not yet be as it seems. Nevertheless, for Claire and co, this news is devastating, with Lord John in particular having toface the brunt of social expectations against his grief. This is something actor Berry spoke about earnestly in an interview withTVLine, saying,
“I hope audiences can really relate to John’s grief in this moment as much as they relate to Claire’s. I think it’s easy for audiences to really tap into the grief that Claire is feeling, but this is also a great love that Lord John has been carrying and a huge loss that he experiences.” To handle that weight of emotion is task enough, but, given the social norms of the time and the expectation placed on John’s shoulders, showcasing grief can possibly come with a hefty price. “There is a real problem and tragedy in that he can’t mourn the way publicly, or even privately, that he wants to,” Berry adds, “He has to hide it from William. He has to hide it from the public,” Berry says. “Again, he’s very adept at hiding things and the things that he loves, but it’s going to tear him apart.”

Elsewhere the time-tripping is set to continue, as thejourneys of these wonderfully crafted characters threaten to explode into chaos. Just six episodes remain inOutlander, and the next will perhaps be used as a backdoor pilot for theupcoming spinoffBlood of My Blood; That is if the now-famed first line of the preview available to watch above is to be followed. A synopsis for the upcoming episode reads:
“Claire turns to John Grey for comfort as they process difficult news. Ian and Rachel discuss their love and their future. Brianna confronts an intruder at Lallybroch.”
