What Is ‘Superman’ About?

The film details a week in the life of Superman (David Corenswet), in the wake of his controversial decision to intervene in Boravia’s unlawful invasion of its neighbor Jarhanpur. His archenemy Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) attempts to sway public opinion against the Man of Steel by invading his Fortress of Solitude with his agents, the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría) and Ultraman, in the process uncovering a dark secret about Superman’s past that even Clark Kent was unaware of. Together with his uneasy allies in the Justice Gang, including Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), he’s determined to get to the bottom of Luthor’s schemes, as are the intrepid Daily Planet crew of Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), and Perry White (Wendell Pierce). In the end, however, the fate of the world may rest in the hands of Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), Luthor’s disillusioned girlfriend…

Supermanserved as a strong kick-off for the rebooted DC cinematic universe, grossing $579 million USD at theglobal box office. It also reversed DC’s recent fortunes with critics, earning an 83% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. It will be followed up bySupergirl, which was teased at the end of the film, next summer.James Gunn is also hard at work on the next chapter in the Superman story, even though it reportedly won’t exactly be a direct sequel to the hit DC film.
