Titus Wellivermay be hanging up Harry Bosch’s badge — at least for now — but he’s not stepping away from hard-edged drama. The longtimeBoschandBosch: Legacystar is making his way to CBS in a major way, guest-starring inThe EqualizerSeason 5, Episode 16, titled “Sins of the Father.” And if all goes well, it might not be a one-off. The episode, which aired April 20, serves as a potential backdoor pilot for a new spinoff, with Welliver starring as Elijah Reed, a former CIA operative whose mysterious disappearance pulls his daughter Samantha (played byJuani Feliz) into the orbit of Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) and her team.

“I had a blast doing it,” Welliver told Parade. “Juani is a marvelous actor. She’s great, and it was really wonderful to finally get to work with Latifah, who I’ve known for a long time.”

While fans might be used to seeing Welliver portray the brooding, by-the-book Harry Bosch, Elijah Reed is a very different kind of operative. Earlier, Welliver described the role as “more open and demonstrative,” likening Reed to a “Jason Bourne without the memory problems.” It’s a sharp pivot from his decade-long run in theBoschfranchise — and one he seems to relish.

“I love that show; it’s just fun. I loved the original version withEdward Woodward, I loved the films [withDenzel Washington], I love what Latifah does with McCall.”

What Is Titus Welliver’s Role in ‘The Equalizer’?

In “Sins of the Father,” Samantha Reed teams up with McCall after her father vanishes. What begins as a missing persons case unfolds into something much deeper, as secrets from Elijah’s past — including family history tied to the Dominican Republic — come to light. It’s the kind of emotionally charged, high-stakes drama thatThe Equalizerdoes best, and it givesWelliver plenty of room to show a different side of himself.

With no official spinoff announcement yet, CBS is clearly testing the waters. But if the fan response is strong, Elijah Reed’s story may just be getting started. For the time being, Welliver is content to dive into something new, now thatBoschis unfortunately in his rearview mirror — but he’s got a decade of experience to bring with him. And if Elijah becomes a new fixture inThe Equalizeruniverse? He’s more than ready.
