Universal’sJurassic World Rebirthmight not have been the franchise re-starter many had hoped for, with mixed reviews from audiences and even poorer reviews from critics overshadowing the return of the dinosaurs. However, theGareth Edwards-helmed seventh installment in the franchise is anything but a failure financially, having had another huge theatrical weekend despite strong new competition and hitting new box office heights.
Officially, at the time of writing,Jurassic World Rebirthhas earned a dino-sized $718 million worldwide, split between a domestic haul of $301 million and a further $417 million from overseas markets. Produced for a reported $180 million, this total marks certain financial success for Universal, asRebirthcontinues to take down other big-name titles in its quest toclimb higher in the all-time ranks. One such movie it has now toppled isHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, which, although far from outperforming it on a global stage, only achieved $298 million in domestic revenue, now $3 million less thanRebirth.

This is all achieved despite the most recent box office weekend droppingRebirth’s biggest box office competition yet in the hottest new MCU arrival in some time:The Fantastic Four: First Steps, led byPedro Pascal. This comes afterJames Gunn’sSupermanfirst took the box office crown away fromRebirth, with the trio doing battle with several other big-name titles such as Universal’sHow to Train Your Dragonremake,Joseph Kosinski’sF1, Sony’s reboot ofI Know What You Did Last Summer, and more.
‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Failed With Critics
Featuring a cast boasting the likes ofScarlett JohanssonandMahershala Aliamong many others,Jurassic World Rebirthwas likely always going to prove popular. However, critics slammed the movie for a lack of originality, plot contrivances, and slow pacing among other issues. InAidan Kelley’sreview of the movie for Collider, he awardedRebirtha 5/10, saying, “Narratively and pacing-wise, though, there are a lot of problems, and a lot of that seem motivated by this series' constant urge to make bigger and badder dinos, even if they aren’t always better.” He then added, “There’s some fun to be had here, but overall,Jurassic World Rebirthfeels indicative that this franchise is not dissimilar from what the original film is trying to say about the ethics of cloning dinosaurs.”
Jurassic World Rebirthis in theaters now. Stay tuned to Collider for more box office updates.
