Mike Dougherty’sTrick ‘r Treatfollow-up,Krampus, isn’t due in theaters until December, but Universal Pictures opted to hold an early press day in Pittsburgh. Why Pittsburgh? Because that’s where you’ll find theScareHouse, a must-see haunted house with three different sections - “The Summoning,” “Trick ‘r Treat: Hallowed Grounds” and “Krampus: Come All Ye Fearful.”

Prior to chatting with Dougherty andKrampusstarDavid Koechner, I got the opportunity to walk through the attraction along with the rest of the visiting journalists. There’s lots to admire about the ScareHouse, but the two elements that struck me most were the production design and the performances. Every inch of all three sections is absolutely dripping with stunning detail and they’re also packed with talented, committed actors who won’t break character for anything, even during appearances in the ScareHouse lobby.

Here’s the official synopsis forKrampus:

Legendary Pictures’ Krampus, a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday. When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.
