Disney’s newest live-action remake is already making waves — and whileLilo & Stitchhasn’t reached orbit like some of the studio’s biggest hits, it’s certainly managed to stick the landing. Ahead of its theatrical release, theLilo & Stitchlive-action remake has debuted with a76% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 49 reviews at the time of writing. That’s a mostly positive start for the film, especially given the growing skepticism surroundingDisney’s live-action adaptations— and the fact that the original 2002 animated movie boasts an86% scoreand a fiercely loyal fanbase, or ‘ohana, if you prefer.
While Disney’s recent remakes have seen a wide range of critical receptions — from the high-flyingThe Jungle Book(94%) to the much-malignedPinocchio(27%) —Lilo & Stitchis being positioned as something of a comeback. Following theSnow Whiteremake’s disappointing 39% critics score earlier this year, theHawaiian-set space comedy(what a weird genre, when you think about it) is, surprisingly, the studio’s best-reviewed live-action outing sinceCruellain 2021.

The new film starsMaia Kealohaas Lilo andfeatures the return ofChris Sandersas the voice of Stitch, the same role he originated more than two decades ago. The cast also includesSydney Elizebeth Agudong,Hannah Waddingham,Billy Magnussen,Zach Galifianakis, andCourtney B. Vance, with direction byDean Fleischer Camp(Marcel the Shell with Shoes On).
