Don’t hold your breath for aModern Familyreunion — unless it’s in a cow field. During the press day forHappy Gilmore 2,actressJulie Bowenaddressed the possibility of revisiting the beloved ABC sitcom that made her a household name. While she didn’t rule it out entirely, she made it clear to Collider’sSteve Weintrauband her co-starAdam Sandlerthat any revival is far from a sure thing.

“I’ve always said that we’d all show up in a cow field… This is not a cow field. It’s a beautiful, beautiful golf course. But I’d show up anywhere for that group of people, much like I’ll show up for Adam if he calls. There are a few projects where you just go, ‘Yes. Whatever you need.’ Because it provided me with so much joy, and it has benefited me in every way — emotionally, financially, all the ways. So, you just show up. I would love that.”

Was There a ‘Modern Family’ Spin-Off?

The sentiment was sweet, but the message was clear: this isn’t something actively in the works. Bowen confirmed that while the cast did recently reunite for a WhatsApp commercial, the attempts to keepthe show’s universe alivehave largely stalled out. That WhatsApp ad marked the first time the cast reunited in any form since the series finale aired in 2020, but hopes for a full-fledged spin-off were dashed not long after the series wrapped.

“There was a spin-off for a second that didn’t go, so maybe that gave somebody cold feet. I have no idea. It was all during COVID.”

When Sandler reacted with surprise — “There was a spin-off?” — Bowen elaborated:

“It wasCam and Mitchell on a farm. The gay couple goes and lives back on a farm. I have no idea what happened with it. I wasn’t involved with it. I would always support them and love them, but maybe they just need to give it a minute. Or they’re casting for younger people right now.”

Bowen’s comments echo the reality many fans ofModern Familyhave accepted: while the original series capturedlightning in a bottlefor over a decade, its story might be best left where it ended. Still, it’s not hard to imagine the show finding a second life down the line — but if that ever happens, it sounds like the cast will be ready. Just don’t expect it anytime soon.

‘Modern Family’ Is a 10/10 Comfort Show in the Sandler House

Despite the show’s immense popularity, it looks like we won’t be getting any more. That said, if there were ever a campaign to get it back on the air, it sounds like the Sandler family will be the first names on the petition, as the comedy legend told Bowen how much the show meant to him and his children.

“The biggest show in my house is that show, and it has been since the pandemic. I’m not lying to you. I don’t see my college daughter as much as I did in years prior to this, but it was a daily, three times, four times a day, watchingModern Family. Daily! Every time I walked in the room, I’d be like, ‘Why are you watching that one again?’ ‘It makes me feel good.I like it.’ They loved it.” A clearly moved Bowen responded that the sentiment was “ridiculously lovely” but that she was immensely grateful to hear it.
