Moon Knightbreakout starMay Calamawyis set to be a part ofLee Cronin’supcoming reboot ofThe Mummy.Calamawy is thelatest addition to the film’s castalongsideVeronica Falcón(Queen of the South)andMay Elghety(Grand Hotel).While the plot details forThe Mummyare currently under wraps, theAtomic Monster and Blumhouse co-productionhas locked inJack Reynor(Midsommar)as the lead, whileLaia Costa(The Wheel of Time)plays the role of his wife.

Production forThe Mummyis currently underway in Ireland withJames Wan,Jason Blum,andJohn Kevilleas producers. Cronin iswriting and directing the project,which is slated for release on July 27, 2025. In a statement shared withThe Hollywood Reporter, Cronin expressed that the reboot will be “unlike anyMummymovie” the audience has ever seen. The director revealed that he aims tocreate something “very ancient and very frightening.”

Lee Cronin’s ‘The Mummy’ Serves As the Horror Franchise’s Third Reboot

Universal Pictures’ originalThe Mummywas released in 1932 and starredBoris Karloffas Imhotep, an ancient mummy who was killed for attempting to bring his dead lover back to life. The franchise saw its first reboot in 1999 withBrendan FraserandRachel Weiszin the lead. Fraser went on to star in two sequels titledThe Mummy Returns(2001)andThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor(2008). However, the franchise was rebooted once again in 2017 withTom Cruiseas the lead. The Cruise-led reboot’s first installment, however, failed to make a profit at the box office, which led to all further sequels being scrapped.

The Mummywill release in theaters worldwide on June 06, 2025.
