The wait is almost over for the beginning of the newDigimonanime series, and todayToei Animationdecided to make the wait a little bit easier for fans all over the world. After releasing a single, darkened image from the upcomingDigimon Beatbreak, the animation studio unveileda first trailer that finally provides a bit of insightinto the tone of the series, its protagonist, and itsDigimoncompanion. The series is slated to premiere on October 5.

The trailer forDigimon Beatbreakshowcases the birth of a new Digimon.This part is common ground for viewers, but what might take them to new territory is the new series' setting — and its protagonist. From the looks of it, the newDigimonspin-off will take place in a futuristic andmaybe even dystopian world. A title card suggests that humanity has reached a stage in which we use “emotionally generated energy” to advance its technology, but one question is immediately prompted: is happiness mandatory in the new world ofDigimon?

As someone starts to question reality, the story begins. We are then introduced to Gekkomon (voiced byMegumi Hanin the original Japanese), the new Digimon who will partner up with a human. The trailer suggests that new Digi-destined Tomoro Tema (Miyu Irino, whoshared an emotional message after being cast) will join a cleaner team that is tasked with handling incidents involving erratic Digimons in a separate dimension. We get a brief glimpse of three other characters, but we still don’t know much about them.

‘Digimon’ Is Gearing Up for a Massive Return This Fall

This is a pretty good year forDigimonfans. Aside from the new anime series, they will be able to enjoy other exciting developments in the franchise. Later this year, the highly anticipated video gameDigimon Story: Time Stranger— which pretty much allows you to role-play as a Digi-destined — will get released, and the franchise’s trading card game will finally geta mobile app calledDigimon Alysion, which will allow players all over the world to connect through online battles.

Digimon Beatbreakis the first installment of the franchise to be released in two years. The previous installment,titledDigimon Ghost Game, ended its run in 2023. The franchise tends to release new seasons with little to no connection between them (with a couple of exceptions), and from all we know, the new series will also be a standalone adventure withno relation with the originalDigimon Adventure.
