Mockingjay Part 2’ Wins Third Straight Box Office Title

This year’s post-Thanksgiving frame won’t go down as a blockbuster by any means but, then again, it very rarely does. The total box office take at this time last year was just $78.2 million, making it one of the worst weekends in a very uneven year. This year’s $94.7 million total looks robust by comparison – especially because four movies (instead of 2014’s one) made it above $15 million. But let’s be honest: at this point we’re all just counting the days before we see a true blockbuster in action....

New Images from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Dunkirk, More

Last night was the Golden Globes, so the 2017 movie season is now officially underway! Well, okay, there’s an argument to be heard that the season isn’t officially in full stride until the Oscars are over, but that seems inaccurate. This coming weekend,Eugene Green’s blissfulThe Son of Josephwill premiere in New York and a few other city markets, andSilence,Martin Scorsese’s magnificent act of soul-searching, will go wide after a short, super limited qualifying run at the tail end of 2016....

Silicon Valley Season 4 Review: Still Good, but Due for an Upgrade

Now in its fourth season, HBO’s sharp satire on the tech industry,Silicon Valley(not to be confused with HBO’s sharp satire ofpolitics,Veep) has settled into a familiar formula. But then again, most successful comedies do. Just because we know that the lads of Pied Piper will (1) work hard to make a great app and that (2) it will immediately fail and they’ll (3) get out of trouble and will (4) find an alternative way to use their smarts in a rollercoaster fashion throughout each season doesn’t lessen the tension....
