It’s time for Showtime’s summer season, which means we’re getting the first episode of the new seriesRoadiesto watch in full (they might do the same for the new season ofRay Donovancoming up, but we’ll see).Roadiescomes from writer and directorCameron Crowe(Almost Famous), and marks not only his advent to television, but of yet another major filmmaker making the move to the small screen to tell their stories.
Roadiesdefinitely has someAlmost Famousvibes, and it’s sure to boast a killer soundtrack, but there are other elements to its (via recent trailers) that look like they border on the corny, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We don’t needeveryshow to be full of dark cynicism. It’s ok to be happy! Having said that, the backstage antics of a band on the road are also sure to bring a lot of drama, and probably plenty of sex and drugs to go with the rock ‘n roll, so Hallmark Channel this ain’t.
