Warner Bros bet onRobert De Niro’s gangster appeal and doubled down on it with a dual role inThe Alto Knights, but the audience has spoken, and the box office doesn’t look so good, nor are critics happy with this feature from veteran directorBarry Levinson. While the movie had all the right talents attached, it fell short on its appeal to the fans, and De Niro’s dual role didn’t help. But there’s still hope, as the studio has released the movie on VOD.

Fans of Levinson and De Niro, who couldn’t make it to the theatres now, have the opportunity to watch the movie at the ease of their homes. Furthermore, the movie will be released on Blu-Ray on May 27 with bonus content. The movie castsDe Niro as not one but two real-life figures from the world of organized crimeduring the mid-1900s. He plays mob bosses, Frank Costello and Vito Genovese, giving him a rare chance to act opposite himself in a film that follows the attempted assassination of Costello by Genovese.

The Alto Knights was a Box Office Bomb

Despite a thrilling tale and a slew of power-packed performers,The Alto Knightsfailed to even make its production budget. The movie has earned over $9 million against a budget of $45–50 million. It failed to impress the audience and critics alike with poorRotten Tomatoesscore that stands at 39 percent. Along with a disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score, Metacritic has assigned the movie a 47/100 indicating “mixed or average” reviews.

While the opening weekend success ofA Minecraft Moviebrought some relief to Warner Bros,The Alto Knightmarked second flop for WB on the big screen afterBong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17. Though the movie can hope to redeem itself with VOD and home release with more eyeballs and De Niro’s fan following, however, time will tell its exact fate.
