With the spooky season right around the corner, it’s time once again for horror fans to start planning their various genre marathons. you may’t have one without an injection of horror comedy. The king of that sub-genre over the last six decades has beenScooby-Doo. Mystery Inc. has been part of pop culture since 1969 with a Coolsville full of groovy merchandise. Now, as fans wait for the next iteration of the franchise,Scooby-Doogets a pair of newFunko Pops.
The two new Funko Pops are Scooby-Doo and his best palShaggy Rogers. However, there’s a cinematic twist. Thehungry duoare at the movies, andboth are wearing vintage 3D glasses and eating popcorn. They’re most likely watching a Vincent Van Ghoul marathon.Since the franchise’s 50th anniversary in 2019, Funko has made a ton ofScooby-DooPops,including the main gang of Fred, Daphne, and Velma. They’ve also highlighted some of Mystery Inc.’s deadliest foes: The Puppet Master, The Black Night Ghost, The Phantom Virus, and The Headless Spectre, just to name a few. Yet, these pair of movie-loving Pops will be $14.99 USD each.
Where Are Those Meddling Kids?
Since the late ’90s,Scooby-Doohas been everywhere. The franchise had at least oneanimated direct-to-video filma year up until 2024 and thelive-action 2000s films starring Freddie Prinze Jr.,Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, and Sarah Michelle Gellar are millennial cult classics. However, ever sinceDavid Zaslavtook over Warner Bros.,Scooby-Dooand the company’s other popular animated brands have taken a backseat. A lot ofScooby-Doo’s classic cartoons and shows have slowlybeen removed from HBO Maxwhile the Christmas-themed sequel to 2020’sScoob!was canceled and used as a tax write-off.
However, the merchandise continues to sell.Scooby-Doois still seeing newphysical media editionsalongside Funko Pops, action figures, and apparel collections that get released on a regular basis. There is some light at the end of the tunnel as anew live-actionScooby-Dooseriesiscurrently in the works at Netflix. There are not a lot of details about the project or a cast yet, but nevertheless, it’s going to be exciting to see the streamers' more horror-centric YA spin on the iconic Mystery Inc. gang.
