They say as one door closes, another one opens. That was the case at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday.James Gunnposted his latest photo commemorating the end of filming onGuardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, but this one had a little twist: the photo featuredTom Hollandas he arrived on set to begin work on his own Marvel movie,Spider-Man: Homecoming.

“Many blessings today to the star ofSpider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland, and the film’s director,Jon Watts,” Gunn wrote alongside a photo of himself, the young star, andChris Pratt. Gunn added, “I don’t think we could pass the Marvel baton to two nicer, better guys who care more about what they’re doing. Kill it!”

Marvel has yet to release a formal statement announcing the start of principal photography, but photos of some of the cast in costume have already begun leaking online. Holland is spotted in a V-neck sweater and plaid shirt as Peter Parker, Nickelodeon starZendayaas the female lead Michelle, andThe Grand Budapest HotelstarTony Revoloriserving some double-polo action as Manuel.

This latest incarnation of Spider-Man, a product of Marvel and Sony’s joint partnership, made his debut inCaptain America: Civil War. Spinning off with his own film, Peter is bringing with him his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Also featured inHomecomingwill beLaura Harrier,Michael Barbieri,Logan Marshall-Green, andMartin Starr, with the villain played byMichael Keaton(not without some convincing). Plot details are unknown at this time, though Marvel conspiracy theorists will join me in thinking it’s no coincidence one of The Winter Soldier’s activation words inCivil Waris “Homecoming.”

Spider-Man: Homecomingis scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
