'Star Wars: Starfighter' Cast Expands With an "X-ceptional" Horror Icon

Goth, meet Hoth. Scream queenMia Gothis the latest addition toShawn Levy’s mysterious newStar Warsmovie,Starfighter. She’ll star alongsideRyan Gosling, who is playing the film’s lead. Variety reports that Goth’s role is being kept under wraps for now.

Previously, the role had reportedly been offered to reigning Best Actress Oscar-winnerMikey Madison, who turned it down. The space opera role will be one of the highest-profile roles for Goth to date. Her current resume is notably horror-heavy, with roles inSuspiria,A Cure for Wellness,Infinity Pool, and all three films ofTi West’sX Trilogy. Later this year, she’s set to star inGuillermo del Toro’sFrankenstein, and has also landed a role inChristopher Nolan’s star-studded adaptation ofThe Odyssey. This will be Goth’s first venture into big-budget studio franchise filmmaking, although she is also slated to star in the MCU’sBladereboot, if it ever gets off the ground.

What Do We Know About ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’?

After a long slumber following the release of sequel-trilogy-concluding (and audience-polarizing)The Rise of Skywalker, theStar Warsmovie machine has returned to life. The big-screen spinoff of Disney+‘sThe Mandalorian,The Mandalorian and Grogu, is set to hit theaters next year, andStar Wars: Starfighterwill follow it to the big screen. Shawn Levy, who helmed last year’s buddy blockbusterDeadpool & Wolverine, is directing from a script byYour Friends and Neighbors’Jonathan Tropper. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it’s safe to assume that, given the title, it will center around the series’ trademark outer-space starfighter dogfights. It is also set to take place five or six years after the fall of the First Order, as seen inThe Rise of Skywalker, making it the first movie to explore that time period in theStar Warsgalaxy. It is set to begin production this fall, and will be released on August 26, 2025.

In addition toThe Mandalorian and GroguandStarfighter, there are several otherStar Warsfilms in varying stages of development. They include aNew Jedi Orderfilm, withDaisy Ridleyset to return as Rey Skywalker; aJames Mangoldfilm about the ancient history of the Jedi; and anentirely new sagaspearheaded bySimon Kinberg.
