What’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze' About?
After the success of the 1990TMNTlive-action film, which in itself was a response to the extremely popular animated series, a sequel was quickly released the following year. The original film was a hybrid of the darker comics and the light-hearted cartoon. TheTurtlescursed, the violence was notable, and the film dealt with heavy themes. That causedThe Secret of the Oozeto go in a more kid-friendly, marketable direction and have a much nicer tone. The fight scenes were also toned down, and the Turtles rarely used their iconic weapons. They even had a dance number set to the backdrop of rapperVanilla Ice. The story once againsaw the team take on the dreadedShredder. The latter of which was trying to obtain the substance that created the Turtles so he could raise his own mutant army. By the end, he used the mutagen on himself and became a hulking version that is depicted in this Mondo figure. This type of Shredder would be seen again in various futureTMNTprojects, like the beloved 2012 animated Nickelodeon series. WhileTheSecret of the Oozelooked a lot cheaper than its predecessor and was arguably worse in every conceivable way, if you were a kid when this film came out, it most likely had a lasting impact.
