All good things must come to an end, and, after the multitude of trials and tribulations faced by its main character in the latest season, it would seem as though audiences are turning their backs onThe Chosen’s Prime Video run — at least for now. The title has seemingly run out of fuel on the streamer’s Top 10 list, losing its coveted top position to other productions likeThe Summer I Turned PrettyandCountdown. Seeing as how the second half of the fifth season arrived on the platform more than a month ago at the end of June, the fall from grace was only a matter of time. Unlike other projects, like the aforementionedCountdown, that release new episodes every week,The Chosen’s decision to fan out the eight parts over three drops may have hindered its shelf life on the Top 10 list.

That’s not to say thatThe ChosenSeason 5 didn’t have a good run. In fact, the title managed to fend off its pursuers and captivate audiences for nearly two months. At one point, mega-fan,Chris Pratt, helped give it anextra boost in viewership numbersthanks to comments he made, during which he praised the series, saying,

“The Chosenis incredible. It’s so good. I think it’s amazing. And the production value is incredible. It’s now sort of pop culture canon, right?”

Created, directed, and co-written byDallas Jenkins, the series follows the life of Jesus Christ (Jonathan Roumie) and adapts many of themost famous storiesfrom the Bible into on-screen form. At the heart of its success, Jenkins believes thatThe Chosenhas been such a hit with audiences thanks to its “authenticity,” which is the word that he and his team started with when they began working on the production years ago. Still, it has faced some pushback from critics and those who have studied the Bible due to some depictions that are allegedly not as “authentic” as folks would like.To this, Jenkins said,

“I remained focused on authentically portraying Jesus regardless of the response. And of course, the response includes criticism. There are a lot of strong opinions about Jesus and the Bible, and every day you may find articles or YouTube videos saying either that I’m a heretic and dangerous or the greatest filmmaker ever. Neither is true, but the fact that I’m not looking to avoid criticism or gain praise has allowed me to stay focused.”

The first five seasons ofThe Chosenare now streaming on Prime Video.
