There’s a lot on the line duringThe Chosen’s upcoming penultimate season. Right now, the cast and crew behind theDallas Jenkins-created, directed, and co-penned series are working through the night (literally) to bring one of the most infamous stories from the Bible to life — the crucifixion. From what we’ve learned so far fromJonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, it’s been a difficult journey filled with plenty of deep and varying emotions. Recently, we were lucky enough to chat with another member of the cast,Elizabeth Tabish, who shared some insight into the sixth season with us.

The actress has been part of theaudience-favorite seriessince the very beginning, portraying one of Jesus’ closest companions — Mary Magdalene. During our back-and-forth with Tabish, we asked her if she could shed some light on what it’s been like to have been part of this particular passage and how filming the incredibly harrowing story ofJesus’ final dayshas affected her. For her, the biggest shift from Season 1 to Season 6, as far as Mary’s story is concerned, is that now she has a community togo through the painwith, telling Collider:

“In Season 1 I had a lot of scenes where I was alone, going through devastating emotions and experiences. In Season 6 we’ve come to the apex of devastation in this story—the torture, mockery and public execution of our friend and teacher. This time, however, I’m not alone. I’m surrounded by friends and loving colleagues, and we’re all going through this together. We’re grieving together. We’re crying together, holding each other’s hands, embracing each other after takes, building each other up before action. It has made for a much gentler and quite beautiful experience.”

How the Setting Affects the Performers on ‘The Chosen’

If you’ve kept up withour coverageofThe Chosen, you’ll know thatthe casthas had the opportunity to transport themselves back to Biblical days thanks to a to-scale movie set in Goshen, Utah. The set fully immerses the team in the experience and has allowedTabish to feel fully part of the story, as she told us:

“These sets make it so easy to slip into the reality of the story. There are always so many distractions on a set, so many things you have to tune out. But when the set envelopes you in a realistic cocoon of 1st century Jerusalem, it’s not only one less thing you have to try to ignore, but rather an opportunity to slip even further into character.”
