Everyone’s favorite chaotic genius might not be done with the family drama just yet.The upcoming four-episodeMalcolm in the Middlerevivalon Disney+ is already generating a ton of excitement — and according to Disney Television Studios chiefEric Schrier, it may not stop at just one reunion. Speaking withDeadline, Schrier confirmed that the mini-series was designed as a self-contained event, but left the door wide open for more.

“It’s designed to be four episodes. If it’s a huge success, there’s always a conversation to have — is there a way to do more of it? We’ll see.”

What’s the ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival About?

The new story picks up with Malcolm now grown and navigating life as a father himself. When his parents call the family home for their 40th wedding anniversary, the result is exactly what you’d expect from the Wilkerson clan: mayhem, misunderstandings, and a whole lot of yelling. “I think the scripts are really funny and I’m really excited to see how it all comes together,” Schrier added.

The revival is being written by series creatorLinwood Boomer, withKen Kwapisdirecting.Filming is already underway in Vancouverand expected to wrap in May, with a release targeted for late 2025 on Disney+. The series launched the careers of its cast — especially Muniz and Cranston, the latter of whom went on to win Emmys forBreaking Bad. Cranston has always spoken of his desire to return to the role of Hal, the kind, manic, eccentric father with a heart of gold, and it’s nice to see him doing this as a passion project. That generally means the audience will buy into the series more. The show originally aired from 2000 to 2006, and it became a classic over time due to the smart writing and comedy, the fourth-wall breaking from Muniz’s Malcolm, and the sheer insanity of living inside the most dysfunctional house on television.
