The summer anime season just got more exciting to look forward to. This week, david Productions announced that it will release a new original anime series.Onmyō Kaiten Re:verseisan isekai storyand is set to debut onCrunchyrollon July 2. The release window suggests that the animation company is confident that the new title can stand out among other huge anime series set to return or debut this summer. The story ofOnmyō Kaiten Re:versefollows Takeru Narihira (voiced byTaihi Kimura), a young man who, after an accident, is suddenly transported into theearly days of Japanese historyto Heian-kyō, which was the original name of Kyoto. In the new environment, he’s surprised to run into Tsukimiya (Maaya Uchida), a woman he’s seen many times in his dreams. He then teams up with her in order tofight demonsand find his way back home.

The trailer forOnmyō Kaiten Re:versesuggests that it will bea fast-paced anime serieswith some impressive character designs. It also reveals that protagonist Takeru Narihira is “a delinquent,” which suggests that he might have a redemption path ahead of him — especially after he learns to toughen up to protect the ones he cares about. It also looks like he’ll wear impressive armor at some point in the series, andthe art style of the anime seriessignificantly changes when he’s inside of it.

‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’ and ‘Fire Force’ Get a New “Sister” Series

Onmyō Kaiten Re:versehails from the same production company that brought usJoJo’s Bizarre AdventureandFire Force. Since it’s an original title, we don’t know exactly what to expect from it, but given david Productions' track record, it’s safe to say that we’re in for a wild ride withover-the-top charactersand stakes that keep rising. The series is created byFujiko Sakuno, and directed byHideya Takahashi(Urusei Yatsura).

The 2025 summer slate of anime series will include titles likeDanDaDanSeason 2,Kaiju No. 8Season 2,Sakamoto DaysPart 2, and new titles likeHotel Inhumans,Silent Witch,andGachiakuta. It’s too early to tell ifOnmyō Kaiten Re:versewillstand out among the competition, but if it’s as good as the trailer promises, anime fans will certainly find a space for it in their hearts.
