Thunderboltsis set to enter its third weekend in theaters, and despite mostly positive reviews, the film has tapered off at the box office quicker than expected. At the time of writing,Thunderboltshas grossed $134 million domestically and $143 million internationally for a worldwide total of $277 million. This $134 million in the U.S. is enough to pushThunderboltspastFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the critically panned 2007 superhero sequel starringChris Evans. Evans played The Human Torch before he took on the role of Captain America in the MCU.Thunderboltsalso zoomed past 1978’sSupermanand 2003’sHulk. The film will look to hit $150 million domestically and internationally, and also cross $300 million globally this weekend.
Thunderboltswas produced on a reported budget of around $180 million, meaning the film has already out-earned this by roughly $100 million two weeks into its run. By the timeThunderboltsgets ready to leave theaters, it will likely have doubled its production budget and be able to be considered a profitable endeavor forMarveland Disney. The film has been a hit among critics and audiences thus far, earning scores of 88% from the former and 94% from the latter onRotten Tomatoes. Stepping out of the shadow of Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and into the lead role inThunderbolts*is Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who leads the team with all the gusto and strength that would make her sister proud. Her father, Red Guardian (David Harbor), also has a vital role to play in the film, along with newcomer The Sentry (Lewis Pullman), who has a dark side he struggles to keep hidden.

Will Chris Evans Ever Return to the MCU?
Although it has been reported thatChris Evanswill have a role inAvengers: Doomsday, the former Captain America star has debunked this. However, afterAndrew Garfieldvehemently denied his role inSpider-Man: No Way Homefor more than a year, only to appear in the film, Marvel fans have some trust issues when it comes to actors declining their roles in a project. Former Iron Man actorRobert Downey Jr.will star inDoomsdayas the feature villain, and Thor veteranChris Hemsworthwill also have a role to play in the film, so bringing back Evans seems like it would be a no-brainer.
