He’s been to the top of the tallest building in the world, and now ladies and gentlemen,Tom Cruiseis going to the moon. Well maybe. DirectorDoug Limanhas been developing a moon-set heist film calledLuna Parkfor a few years now, but the project got a boost last month when Liman’sEdge of Tomorrowstar Tom Cruise became tenuously attachedto possibly lead the film. Now it appears that the movie is gaining further traction, asVarietyreports thatPanscribeJason Fuchshas been set to write the latest draft of the script with an eye on possibly getting this off the ground next year.

Cruise just began production on the sequelJack Reacher: Never Go Backafter wrapping the drug smuggling actionerMena(also directed by Liman), and while he’s working with Paramount to getMission: Impossible 6into shape to start filming next summer,Luna Parkis surfacing as a possible bridge movie between the two franchises. If all goes well with Fuchs’ draft, Paramount and Skydance—the same production teams behindMission: Impossible 6—may try to squeeze theLuna Parkshoot in before next summer’sM:I 6start date.

Fuchs is on a bit of a roll as of late, even asPanis his only produced feature to date. He was enlisted by Warner Bros. to work onWonder Womanand is developingRustfor 20th Century Fox, and he appears as an actor inDamien Chazelle’s upcoming musicalLa La Land.

Luna Parkis a somewhat nutty sci-fi actioner revolving around a group of renegade employees who venture to the moon to steal an energy source, but Liman and Cruise’s energy onEdge of Tomorrowwas infectious, so if they can keep that going onLuna Parkthen more power to them. But here’s hoping afterLuna Parkthey decide the time is right forEdge of Tomorrow 2.
