It’s been a quiet year forTom Hanksso far, outside a small role inWes Anderson’sThe Phoenician Scheme, but while fans await his next film, one of his more recent movies has returned to streaming charts. Hanks stars alongsideCaleb Landry Jones(X-Men: First Class) andMarie Wagenman(12 Strong) inFinch, the 2021 dystopian sci-fi thriller following a robot who is built to protect his creator’s beloved dog, but he becomes much more when he learns about life, love, and what it means to be human.Finchis currently streaming on Apple TV+ globally, the service it’s called home since its premiere in 2021, and the film is still in the streamer’s top 10 in more than 15 countries, including the United States.Finchearned scores of 74% from critics and 68% from audiences on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
Finchdrew comparisons toI Am Legendupon release, which makes sense, considering the dystopian worlds and heavy presence of canine companions. The film was released straight to streaming on Apple TV+ several years ago, so it did not report any box office earnings.Craig LuckandIvor Powellwrote the script for the film, andMiguel Sapochnikserved as director. Filming forFinchtook place in early 2019 in New Mexico, but due to the extreme volume of motion capture and visual effects, it took the film more than two years to be ready for release. Sapochnik is well-known as one of the best TV directors of all time — he’s directed episodes of bothGame of ThronesandHouse of the Dragon.

Tom Hanks Has Another Movie Dominating Apple TV+
Finchwasn’t the first of Tom Hanks’ movies to be released straight to streaming on Apple TV+. The year beforeFinchcame out, Hanks starred inGreyhound, the gripping WWII thriller that premiered straight on Apple TV+. Hanks even expressed his discontent with this model, but later softened his stance, admitting that the film would have never been released were it not for the tech giant.Greyhoundwas a major success for Apple, so much so thatthe streamer is working on a sequelto the film, though it’s unclear when it will be released. Hanks is expected to return and star inGreyhound 2, and he’s also coming back as the scribe.
Finchis one of the most popular movies in the world onApple TV+. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage of Hanks’ future projects.
