A while back, the folks at Hasbro and Paramount set up a writers room to figure out the future of their shared franchises. This year, another one was announced to hash out the details of a Hasbro cinematic universe. While details are still being revealed, we at least have one bit of information regarding Transformers and that’s the official title for the next installment.
Announced today through a remodeling of the film’s social media pages, the post-Age of ExtinctionTransformers 5is calledTransformers: The Last Knight. In addition,Michael Bayreleased a teaser video which featured a close-up of Optimus’ face. “Ready for another ride, Optimus?” he tweeted. In a follow-up Instagram post, Bay confirmed thatThe Last Knightbegins production next week in Cuba.

Who is this knight of which they speak? It likely has to do with The Knights’ Temenos, an ancient ship once flown by legendary knights but was flown by the bounty hunter Lockdown. Optimus, it seemed, was one of these knights, including perhaps thedinobotsthemselves. Then there’s the idea of The Knights of Cybertron from the comics which are the fabled first Autobots ever created and guardians of theAllspark.
Bay is returning to direct the film, whileMark Wahlbergreprises his role as Cade Yeager, the mechanic who stumbled upon an Autobot amid a pile of junk. ComedianJerrod Carmichael(Neighbors) was recently added to the cast along with Nickelodeon starIsabela Moneras the new female lead. The sequel will also feature the skills ofJohn WickcinematographerJohn Sela. The film is getting ready to film in Michigan afterlanding a hefty incentivefrom the state.
