There are two ways to look at the DC cinematic universe in its current form. One says thatBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeandSuicide Squadwere two of the most profitable films of 2016, both ranking within the top ten highest grossing movies of this year, at fifth and eighth place respectively. The other says that DC’s universe, even more than Marvel, has become so creatively bankrupt, so staggeringly false in their self-seriousness and emotional manipulation, that only the most rabidly obsessed fans of these characters could ever genuinely enjoy these movies. From my experiences, not even the people who can name all of Bruce Wayne’s lovers over the years can really get behind these movies.
This is all the more reason thatWonder Woman, directed byMonsterhelmerPatty Jenkins, is important. It’s the first female-fronted superhero movie to see wide release since, in my memory, the disastrousSupergirland, from the looks of the latest trailer, there’s actual, honest-to-goodness daylight in this movie, something I’m not entirely sureBatman v Supermanincluded within its egregious runtime. What we won’t know until the movie is released (or screened for critics) is how good the script is, and what exactly the narrative rhythm of this film will be.

What we have now, with thetwo full trailers out, is a general idea of what Jenkins' movie will look like on the big screen and so far, so good on that level. Still, there are hinting bits of story and plot turns that can be gleaned by going over the trailer carefully and to make that just a little easier, we screen-grabbed 55 images from the trailer for your perusal. It’s unlikely that some great revelation will be evoked here, but for DC fanatics and casual fans (myself included) alike, the images add a number of questions to the ultimate one: WillWonder Womanbe good? Fingers crossed, ladies and gentlemen.
Here’s the official plot synopsis ofWonder Woman:
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
